1 March 2010 - 0:06Getting Ready For A Cheerleading Competition
Are you looking for some cheerleading information that will help you look good and beat out the competition when participating in cheerleader competitions? Since there is so much to prepare for, many people suggest that a squad should start getting everything going about 3 months prior to the event. Keep reading to find out what you need to do.
Roughly three months before the event, you’ll want to check and see if any of the cheerleaders uniforms need alterations. If that is the case, then there will be lots of time to have them altered as needed. A list should be prepared of all the stunts that the squad plans to execute, like running and tumbling, standing tumbling, pyramids and any others that the team has been studying and practicing. Remember that at this point they do not have to be perfectly performed; just carried out safely.
Choosing the music for cheerleading routines is another item that should be taken care of about 3 months prior to the competition. You can choose to have it custom made to your routine or you can use music that is pre-mixed. Once the music has been selected, the squad needs to begin practicing the stunts and moves they will perform. Most cheerleader competitions adhere to a strict time limit (about 2 minutes) so you need to be sure to finish a few seconds under the time limit or the team will be penalized.
Around two months before the event you need to prepare a preliminary schedule to be given to parents, in order to be certain there will be no scheduling issues. It should also provide them a timeline in which to make sure all essential items will be collected, like shorts, hair accessories, shoes and socks, make-up, and so forth. Be sure you indicate that it is only a tentative schedule, as there are occasions when events are rescheduled or canceled. The squad also must continue practicing their routine, and checking it to ensure that it flows seamlessly and that it meets all specifications.
By one month before the cheerleader competitions the routine should be perfected and the focus should be on polishing it. Several dress rehearsals should be done in full cheerleading uniforms; if possible video tapes of these rehearsals should also be made. This will make it easier to catch any areas that may need some work before heading to the competition.
Cheerleaders are the best at inspiring the crowd into cheering for their home team. But there is much more to cheerleading than that. Discover more useful information about competition cheerleading tips and more at Cheerleading 101.
