The first years of our life are totally determined by one thing: Playing. Of course it is not a waste of time; it is a very important educational element and necessary part of our growth process. But there are different ways of playing and there are toys that make somehow more sense to educate our offsprings than others.
In my studies about the psychology of children I have focused on puppet buggies (German: Puppenwagen) for some time and tried to figure out if there is any educational benefit the buggies or comparable objects could have in the life of children. The idea of a puppet buggy was invented to some extend in Germany and a lot of puppet buggy producers are also located in Germany. Even the great psychologist Sigmund Freud who also contributed the understanding of the psychology of children has indirectly motivated some thoughts about puppet buggies.
Some people might say that one should not invest too much in the care for the dolls. The amount of money you have to invest for a beautiful doll is quite a lot anyway, so why should one invest more in extra things for the dolls. A lot of parents will accepts their children playing with dolls, but not understand the idea of treating the dolls almost like real humans and buying extra stuff for them.
But one should also regard the educational benefit and signal such a doll buggy (German: Puppenwagen) has. It shows the children that you have to invest not only time but also extra money if you want to look after something or someone in our case the doll. The children might soon start to think about more things they would probably have to buy for their own children later on.
It might only be a puppet and most parents some parents might even feel a bit jealous and wonder why their child cares about the puppet much more than about themselves. But this behaviour is simply caused by the fact that from the viewpoint of a child the parents seem rather like heroes and thus they also seem to be able to look after themselves. So instead of just being amused about the Puppenwagen ideas one should think it through first and regard the possible educational benefit.
